Transformation of preprimary schools

The primary goal of this initiative is to advance learning through play and enhance access to preprimary education. By prioritizing play-based learning, the initiative aims to bolster children's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development during these crucial stages. Through play, children engage with the world around them, fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and their environment. To effectively implement play-based learning in preprimary education, several key components are essential. These include the presence of trained teachers and effective school leadership, the creation of conducive indoor and outdoor learning environments, and the establishment of robust systems for implementation, supervision, measurement, and evaluation. In Addis Ababa, preprimary education is currently available through both government and private/non-government sectors. To ensure consistency in implementing a play-based approach aligned with the curriculum across all preprimary schools in the city and to enhance the quality of Early Childhood Education (ECE), the Addis Ababa Bureau of Education (BoE) is collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders.
